SIGNING UP FOR A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT

create a microsoft account

In 2017, Microsoft averaged 12K hits per month as people attempted to create a free Microsoft account. About half of those ended in error states as customers were not clear on the messaging and what was an MSA account. The goal was to direct the customer down the correct and custom sign-in path which resulted in a higher conversion rate. The final design below is currently active and completion rates have increased 60%.

Explorations

The requirement was to be clear on the difference between a Microsoft Account (MSA) versus a Work or School account (business). A visual illustration representation helped define the differences between the accounts and then helped to decrease error states.
